Outlined below are some of the most common questions we have been asked regarding the Electrical Contracting Industry in Ireland. If you have another question please submit it on our comments and questions page and the answer will be posted here.
What is the current status of the Registered Employment Agreement (REA) ?
Following a five year legal challenge by electrical contractors the REA system was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on the 9th of May 2013. All Registered Agreements are now cancelled. Agreements made between the TEEU and any employer party’s have no legal standing and are not legally enforceable. No employer is under any obligation to comply with any agreement made between the TEEU and any other party. It is our opinion that the REA system in its entirety will forever be consigned to the Industrial Relations bin.
