AIMS & OBJECTIVES of NECI

National Electrical Contractors Ireland a new voice a new future

Denis Judge with the Agreement in CORK             John Smite tells it as it is in Carlow                     Dave Butler in KILDARE

DENIS JUDGE                         JOHN SMITH                               DAVE BUTLER

Our Aims & Objectives Short Term

Registered Employment Agreement

• To Stop the Unsustainable Wage Increase Until Proper Structures & Procedures are In Place where all Employers have input into Pay Increases.

• To Stop The Existing Registered Employment Agreement As this Agreement is fundamentally flawed in that there is no substantial representation for Employers. We would like to stress that the purpose of this act is NOT to reduce the Industry to a “free for all” but rather to ensure a level playing pitch for all contractors and to ensure fair conditions of employment for workers. We envisage the new REA to be properly representative of all Electrical Contractors and to establish fair conditions and terms of employment for all workers and all employers not just the contractors who are members of the ECA and AECI. The operation and imposition of the current REA has caused severe hardship and loss of employment in the industry and is anti-competitive. It has caused severe stress and upset and has caused cancellation of contracts for electrical contractors.

• This New Agreement Will Be Fair For All Electrical Contractors Big, Medium And Small And be an Equal Agreement For Employees And Employers. Employees must also be informed of and obey their obligations in the agreement. All employers involved under the agreement MUST be properly educated as to their obligations under the agreement. The New System must include for example Grading System For Electricians. Qualification minimum requirements.

• To formulate a new and fair and transparent system to calculate the annual pay increase for electricians by a means that does not allow annualised hours or shift allowances or bonus payments to influence the formula. This system should be calculated and agreed 12 calendar months before its implementation so that contractors can allow for the increase while tendering for contracts going forward.

• To Negotiate with NERA (National Employment Rights Authority) on the Employment Law Bill 2008.

• To negotiate fair terms and conditions and allow all registered contractors the same opportunity to tender for government contracts.

• To have input into Negotiations To set up A New Regulatory Body Which MUST Be Independent Transparent and Accountable. All inspectors will have to be completely independent.

• To put in place A Certified Education program on the New Registered Employment Agreement To Educate All Existing Contractors On Their Responsibilities As An Employer And Their Legal Obligations Of Being A Registered Electrical Contractor.

• To put in place A Certified Education program To Educate All New Contractors Before Setting Up In Business On Their Responsibilities As An Employer. To inform them of The Legal Obligations as a Registered Electrical Contractor.
